The word liqueur is derived from the Latin word liquifacere meaning “to dissolve”. Originally liqueurs were herbal medicines and date back as far as the 13th century; monks are often credited with first producing them, no doubt believing that these alcoholic and herbal concoctions had healing properties.

Today Liqueurs are produced throughout the world and almost every drink producing country has a richly flavoured, decadently sweet brand that is based on its favourite spirit.

Liqueurs can be manufactured to take on almost any flavour. This wide range of flavours can be seen in major brands such as the orange flavoured Grand Marnier, or the apple infused Calvados, or even the now ubiquitous Irish cream liqueurBaileys. At the Drinks Cabinet we’ve gone out of our way to source the best liqueurs the web has to offer.
