JEAN-NOËL HATON BRUT CLASSIC BLANC DE NOIRS CHAMPAGNE NV £95.94 (6 bottles)

Champagne HatonA member of the fourth generation of this family to be involved in making Champagne in the Marne Valley, Sébastien Haton is one of the region’s great talents. He makes stunning, handcrafted wines with flavour, quality and value superior to many famous Grandes Marques. This superb Blanc de Noirs is crafted from Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier (both are black skinned grapes with clear juice) from the family’s vineyards in Damery, where Sébastien’s great grandfather started out in 1928. The combination of black grapes and lees ageing for 18 months results in a full flavoured style – really rich and toasty with fine bubbles and mouthwatering freshness. A celebration in itself, and a fine partner to canapés, smoked salmon or Chinese food.
AC/DC ‘HELLS BELLS’ MARLBOROUGH SAUVIGNON BLANC 2011 £101.88 (12 bottles), £50.94 (6 bottles)
Hells Bells Bottle
Following in the footsteps of Madonna and the Rolling Stones, AC/DC decided it was time to team up with a great estate and make their own brand of wine. They chose Warburn Estate, one of Australia’s Top 10 wineries and winner of a multitude of accolades around the world. As everyone knows New Zealand “has been crowned king of the world for Sauvignon” (WINE magazine), and the most intense come from Marlborough, so that’s where Warburn sourced the grapes. Hells Bells Sauvignon Blanc is everything you’d expect – a deft combination of power and finesse and giving you oodles of vibrant, grassy tropical fruit. It’s a dazzling apéritif, guaranteed to awaken your taste buds. Also a good match for fish and chips or mildly spicy Asian dishes.
YARRUNGA FIELD BLACK LABEL 2010 £119.88 (12 bottles), £59.94 (6 bottles)
Champagne Blanc de Blancs, Bernard Remy
Any release from Sam Trimboli is worth a fanfare but his Yarrunga Field Black Label deserves a 21 gun salute. For nearly 20 years Sam’s Yarrunga Field white has been a bestseller. So we set him a challenge – to create a Yarrunga Field red. His first was a delicious easy drinker. Then he came up with this – a top quality but great value alternative to the pricier, famous names of the Barossa. It’s a sumptuous blend of premium Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot – picked from vineyards owned by some of the valley’s leading independent growers. Aged in oak barrels, it has spice and velvet smooth cherry and mulberry flavours, with hints of dark chocolate and soft vanilla. Best served with roast beef and all the trimmings or with a rich game casserole.
