Brunello di Montalcino is Tuscany’s most famous DOCG (along with Chianti) and the region’s boldest expression of Sangiovese. Brunello di Montalcino is located 30 miles south of Siena with the hilltop town of Montalcino as its epicentre. Brunello di Montalcino cannot be released for sale until five years after the harvest. During this time the wines should be aged for at least two years in oak followed by at least four months in bottle. This wine from top producer Contemassi is an extremely powerful and classic Brunello. Only Sangionese Grosso grapes are used and they are perfectly ripened and handpicked. The wine has a bright ruby colour and intense aromas of black cherries, earth and a hint of vanilla and toast. On the palate, it has hints of red and black cherries, plums, spices and toast. Long, finish with soft and well balanced tannins. A truly impressive wine!
