Schnapps can be found in all flavours and enjoyed in many different ways but if you’re not sure how to make the most out what you’ve got, here are six recipes from The Drinks Cabinet to give a go.
Woo Woo
One of the classics, to make yourself a Woo Woo you will need:
• 25ml Peach Schnapps
• 25ml Vodka
• 100ml cranberry juice
• Ice
Begin by filling a tall glass with ice and then add in your 25ml of schnapps and 25ml of vodka. Stir the spirits together well before topping up the glass with cranberry juice.
Adult Hot Chocolate
Hot Chocolate with a bit of kick for the coldest nights. To make this tasty hot drink you will need:
• 40ml peppermint schnapps
• Hot chocolate
• Milk/Water
• Whipped cream to finish
Add your schnapps to the bottom of your mug then fill up as you’d regularly make your hot chocolate. Top with whipped cream and marshmallows or chocolate shavings.
Strawberry Daiquiri
Another real classic which is pepped up with schnapps added. To make your Strawberry Daiquiri add:
• 30ml white rum
• 20ml strawberry schnapps
• 30ml lime juice
• 2-4 Strawberries (fresh or frozen)
• Icing Sugar
• Whipped Cream
• Crushed Ice
Coat your glass with icing sugar. Shake the schnapps, rum and lime juice with crushed ice in a cocktail shaker and pour into the coated glass. Top up with whipped cream and your chosen number of fresh strawberries.
Sex on the Beach
Packed with more than a bit of a punch, this is one more classic cocktail which is perfect for schnapps fan. To make the perfect Sex on the Beach combine:
• 40ml vodka
• 20ml peach schnapps
• 40ml cranberry juice
• 40ml orange juice
Begin by adding your vodka and peach schnapps to your chosen glass, add crushed or cubes of ice and then top up with both your cranberry and orange juice, then mix.
Apple Jack
It’s apple schnapps that’s the star of the show in this high spirited cocktail. You will need:
• 40ml apple schnapps
• 40ml Jack Daniel’s whiskey
Mix together both spirits, add ice if you prefer it and garnish with fragrant cinnamon to bring out the strength of the apple flavour.
Gilligan’s Island
Packed full of fruity flavours and inspired by the 60s American sitcom of the same name, this is a high alcohol content for a kick. The make your fruity Gilligan’s Island cocktail add:
• 30ml vodka
• 30ml peach schnapps
• 85ml orange juice
• 85ml cranberry juice
• Crushed ice
• Orange or strawberry to garnish.
Pour all your ingredients, including the ice, into your cocktail shaker and give it a good shake. Once all are well combined pour into your chosen glass and garnish with slices of orange or strawberry. Recipes for this cocktail often vary and you sometimes find strawberry juice substituted for cranberry.
