If your morning cup of java doesn’t perk you up quite enough, how about a coffee cocktail in the evening? Coffee is a great flavour to use in both hot cocktails, deliciously warming on a winter`s night, or cold cocktails for a refreshing summer treat.
Always use the best coffee as it makes all the difference to the final taste. Alternatively you can try something simple with a coffee flavoured liqueur or one of the modern espresso infused vodkas over ice. Experiment with the following recipes:
Hot Almond Chocolate Coffee
20ml Disaronno
15ml dark crrme de cacao
200ml hot coffee
Serve in a stemmed, glass coffee cup and garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
Cafe Amore
30ml Amaretto
30ml Cognac
200ml hot coffee
Pour the liqueurs into an Irish coffee glass and top with the hot coffee. Top with whipped cream and almond slivers. Swap the Cognac for rum to make a Cafe Caribbean.
Espresso Martini
Serves 8
160ml Galliano Ristretto
240ml vodka
240ml chilled espresso coffee
80ml sugar syrup
Take a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice and all the ingredients. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds or until the top is foamy. Strain into a chilled glass and decorate with coffee beans.
Orange Espresso Martini
Serves 8
500ml chilled, freshly brewed espresso
500ml orange vodka, such as Stoli Oranj
250ml Kahlua
8 slices orange peel
Take a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice and add the espresso, vodka and Kahlua. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds or until the top is foamy. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with the orange peel. Serve immediately.
Caramel Latte
40ml Van Gogh Caramel Vodka
15ml Kahlua or similar coffee liqueur
15ml cold espresso coffee
15ml cream
Fill a Collins glass with ice, pour over the ingredients and combine with a cocktail stirrer. Garnish with shaved chocolate.
Chocolate Coffee Kiss
Serves 8
300ml Kahlua
300ml Bailey`s
300ml Tia Maria
300ml Frangelico
300ml dark creme de cacao
300ml cream
Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice. Shake for 30 seconds and strain into a chilled martini glass. Serve immediately.
Velvet Hammer
5/10 Caffe Borghetti
5/10 Cointreau
Cream to serve
Shake the coffee liqueur and Cointreau together in a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice. Pour into a chilled cocktail glass and top carefully with cream.
Raging Bull
40ml Patron XO Cafe
Half a lime
Coca-cola
Pour the coffee liqueur into a 300ml glass, squeeze in the lime juice and top up with the coca-cola.
Black Russian
Half-fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add 7/10 vodka to 3/10 Illyquore coffee liqueur. Shake for 30 seconds and serve immediately.
White Russian
30ml Galliano Ristretto
30ml vodka
20ml cream
Fill a glass with ice and pour over the ingredients. Garnish with fresh mint and ginger sticks
Iced Jamaican
Serves 8
200ml dark rum
200ml Tia Maria
180ml double cream
800ml chilled, strong fair trade coffee
Mix all the ingredients together until well combined and serve in wine glasses half filled with ice.
